Prepare it before you load

Why condition changes the route
A mattress is bulky, difficult to compact, and made from materials that can sometimes be separated: steel, foam, fibers, and wood. A recycler needs it dry enough to handle safely. Donation programs generally apply a much higher condition standard because the item will be used again.
Do not describe a damaged mattress as reusable just to avoid a fee. Tell the collector about bedbugs, mold, bodily-fluid contamination, or fire damage. Some programs require an infested mattress to be sealed in plastic or labeled; others will not accept it at all. The receiving program's instructions control.
